Production Control Technician

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for reviewing all drawings and specifications created by the engineering department and making “make/buy” decisions for each part, as well as critiquing each part for manufacturability by PAI or its suppliers.  The right person for this position will become very familiar with PAI’s manufacturing capabilities as well as our suppliers and will serve as the liaison between PAI Engineering and the part manufacturer.  This position requires heavy attention to detail.  This individual will work closely with the Engineering Manager, Sr. Project Engineers, Project Management and Purchasing to deliver quality parts for Pack Airs Fabrication and Assembly departments.  PAI emphasizes and coaches a Team approach to problem solving throughout the organization.

Daily activities will involve:
– Review bills of materials and part drawings from Engineering to ensure accuracy and completeness
– Address questions and problems from in-house personnel and outside suppliers regarding custom-fabricated parts
– Determine sourcing of parts (ordering from outside suppliers versus making in-house)
– Setup routing and costing for parts made in-house
– Generate and release work orders for parts made in-house
– Request quotes from outside suppliers
– Generate and send purchase orders to outside suppliers
– Track status of work orders and purchase orders
– Review quality of parts from outside suppliers (occasionally or as needed)
– Order raw materials for in-house fabrication (particularly structural and sheet steels)
– Forecast and maintain stock levels of key parts and materials
– Adjust automatically-generated sheet metal part dxf’s as needed for production
– Generate flat views & dxf’s from 2D AutoCAD drawings (occasionally)
– Cross train to other purchasing functions as back-up to Production Control Department staff
– Advise Applications Team and Engineering regarding material specifications or supplier lead times
– Calculate best material yield for special projects

Basic Requirements:
– Strong Mechanical Aptitude
– Ability to read and understand layout and technical drawings
– Understanding of various manufacturing processes
– Other basic computer skills (Word, Excel)
– Must be able to balance personal workloads to meet changing deadlines
– Must be able to balance the needs of Pack Air and the supplier
– Technical Degree

Preferred Experience:
– Sheet Metal Fabrication knowledge
– Mechanical or Controls Engineering background
– 5+ years of experience in conveyor or custom equipment manufacturing
– AutoCAD 2D experience
– AutoCAD 3D (Inventor) or Solidworks experience
– College Degree
